DABT Exam in India - 2009, for the first time in Asia - confirmed!
The Toxicology Community in India, rejoice!
Dr. KS Rao, our Hon’ble President of STOX has received the confirmation from the American Board of Toxicology (ABT) that the Board has unanimously agreed to hold the Examination for DABT in India in the year 2009.
The following is the message from Dr. KS Rao,
The American Board of Toxicology (ABT) Board of Directors have unanimously agreed
to offer the two-day written certification examination at a site in India. The ABT proposes
to offer the exam in 2009 concurrent with the examination dates in the US and Europe.
The written examination will be offered in Bangalore at a venue to be approved by the Board.
Once the venue is agreed by the ABT, the latter will send two Board members to proctor the
examination in 2009. In agreeing to offer the examination in India, ABT is making an initial
commitment of three consecutive years at the selected venue in Bangalore. If, after the initial
three years, the Board decides it is no longer practical to hold the exam in India, any candidates
with remaining years of eligibility would have to sit the exam at one of the other locations.
Information regarding the timing, qualifications and costs related to the examination can be
located on the ABT website (http://www.abtox.org).

“As many of you have undoubtedly heard through the grapevine, we are exploring with Dr. K.S. Rao offering the exam in India. Current intention is to do this for the first time in the fall of 2009, in Bangalore. We are working with KS to make this possible and will keep you informed on the progress of this initiative.”

SOT/AstraZeneca Travel Awards
Once again, the Society of Toxicology (SOT) and AstraZeneca are very generously sponsoring nine $2,000 travel fellowships for scientists to attend the SOT Annual Meeting in Baltimore, MD (March 15 - 19, 2009). Applicants may be either junior or senior scientists, reside in countries where toxicology is underrepresented, and have an active research program or currently be active in the practice of > toxicology.

I urge you to share this information with members of your society, colleagues in your workplace, and other interested parties. Applications are due by October 10, 2008, and awardees will be announced in December.
